Britain is in a bad way.
We were in a bad way before the recession hit.
We'll still be in bad way when it's all over.
A new government must take immediate action.
Here's an Agenda for the First Twenty Minutes.

Job #1:
Banking Reform.
Our banking system is open to extreme abuse
and doesn't do what we need it to do.
We need to separate everyday, simple, secure "utility banking"
from investment fund "casino banking",
then add a vital Third Element
which will create jobs now,
and set Britain's industry on a secure, longterm, productive basis.

Job #2:
Identify Core Cities with their economically dependent regions.
Establish a Regional Development Bank for each Region
to finance new business, existing business expansion, and local infrastructure.
Establish Regional Housing Corporations with access to unused agricultural and grey land
to build cost-effective, modular designed quality housing
for at-cost rental and rent-to-own accommodation,
to provide starter housing and to "anchor" house prices.

Job #3:
Focus on preserving our Green and Pleasant Land:
compacting existing communities, minimizing sprawl,
incorporating city park areas and youth play areas,
increasing and improving access to areas of outstanding natural beauty,
development of a comprehensive national transport system
integrating Inter-city National, with individual Regional Transport Systems.

Job #4:
Separate Education, Healthcare and Pensions from government management and accounting,
each into its own separate compartment,
each to be studied individually with a view to maximizing service quality at minimum cost.
What remains, the essentials of governance,
must be submitted to immediate scrutiny and analysis by independent accountants,
first to place government accounts on a clear footing similar in standard to business accounting,
second to identify programmes and grants for elimination,
and third to identify all possible cost savings in what remains.

Begin immediate unconditional withdrawal of all British troops from Afghanistan
before we lose any more lives and waste any more money.
Halt all defence expenditure pending immediate review and downsizing.

UNEMPLOYMENT - RECESSION - BUDGET DEFICITS
WE DON'T NEED THIS

With Regional Development Banking
based on our Core Cities,
we can expand NOW without deficit financing
AND put our existing and new industries on a sounder, more competitive footing.

There's nothing challenging, nothing that hasn't been done before, tried, tested and working.
The tools are all there.
We only need determination and focus at the top, backed by dedicated specialist teams who know their jobs.
The rest will happen.

In Britain??? Yes, indeed. In fact if not Britain, where else?

Britain has the size and the temperament for it to happen, and the influence to spread its message.
Britain has the finest political pedigree in the world, bar none.
Britain invented the essential tools of modern government:
constitution, parliamentary democracy, an independent judiciary,
all based on the foundation of English Common Law with its sense of fair play and natural justice.

AND we led the world in exploration, industry and invention.

We need to revisit our heritage with the respect it deserves,
then take up once again the political high ground we once held for so long.

We did it once, we can do it again.

Debts and Deficits
Reducing the annual deficit simply reduces the increase in the accumulated debt.
We need to do much better than that.
Do government debts matter? Ultimately... yes.

Britain and the World
Britain ruled the world for 250 years. Now we need to disengage, neither rule, nor be ruled.
